Toucan Waves

How can we engender mass empathy? This is the quandary written on the back side of this painting, inspired by a conversation with family just returning home from living abroad in Berlin this year. We live in a very polarized climate in which it becomes harder and harder to find a middle ground and empathy for the oppositional perspective. With this thought in mind this sketch turn painting was born. Toucan Waves undulate through the understory, begging for us to find the middle ground between the troughs and the crests of life’s contrast.
