Ecological Surrealism | Original Paintings

These paintings begin before the brush touches canvas. They arrive in the threshold between waking and sleep — complete visions carried back and rendered in physical form. What you see here is hypnagogic ecological allegory: images received in the dream state, translated and painted by an artist born from two disparate worlds — a Mennonite farm in Ohio and the concrete jungle of San José, Costa Rica — and shaped by a life spent at sea, in wild places, and in the deep study of how ecosystems hold and collapse.

Birds are the central subject because they have always been the most honest symbol of what I'm reaching for — freedom, interdimensionality, the ability to exist between worlds. They move through air, land, and water. They navigate by stars. They appear in dreams. These are one-of-a-kind works that ask the viewer to remember something they haven't forgotten so much as stopped looking at.

Every purchase supports the long-term mission: building an art and ecological institute in the jungles of Costa Rica — a place where people heal through art and land, and leave with something real to bring home.
